Marian recently won the PokerFest Bucharest Main Even, he plays poker for the adrenaline that he gets at the game table, this adrenaline, which, besides the financial gain, made him love this game. The 30-year-old is in charge of a business in the field of pawnshops, foreign exchange and sale of jewelry and luxury watches. How did you start to play poker? Is poker a hobby, a way of life or a job for you?

Pleasure for poker is older, since I was a kid and played 5 cards poker, even now I can that we were playing it on matchsticks and it was fun. Since I discovered Texas Hold’em Poker which is more exciting and more complex, it became a part of me. It is not a way of life, because I have a business to which I am very dedicated too, but Poker is a part of my life. The spirit of competition, the excitement and why not, the financial gain made me love this game.

What types of poker do you like to play? Hold’em, Omaha poker, Five Card? Why?    

I like Hold’em the most and I play Omaha seldom because it is very similar to gambling.

Do you prefer to play poker in live or online events? Why?

I prefer the live game by far. I’m addicted to the adrenaline rush and in front of the computer you can only get a small part of that feeling, at least that’s the case with me. I only target online large-scale tournaments with great prizes.

Do you enjoy the cash games more or the tournaments?

The tournaments come first but due to the fact that I do not have very much free time and tournaments are conducted over a long period of time, I also play cash games 2-3 times a week for a few hours.

What is your way of playing poker? Do you choose your strategy when you sit down at the game table, or you adapt depending on the opponents?

When I sit down at the table I do not go with a strategy but I try to make one during the game. The strategy also depends on the opponents and I am also trying to anticipate their strategy. I don’t like to underestimate my opponents, even if it happens to be beginners.

Recently you have won the PokerFest Bucharest Main Event, what did this victory mean to you?

This victory meant a lot to me. It was a beautiful and deserved victory I’d say, because throughout the entire tournament I have been always on the podium. This huge performance makes me to want to go higher and gives me confidence to participate to as many tournaments as possible.

How were the players encountered by you at PokerFest and especially those at the final table?

In general, PokerFest tournaments are attended by the best very good and experienced players. I already knew some of the players I had met at the final table, including Dan Murariu which according to many is among the best tournament players of Romania. I was afraid because I knew that they are a lot more experienced than me and I tried to make a game as good as the one I have succeeded throughout the tournament.

Recently the idea of „poker, a sport of the mind” is very popular, what do you think, may poker fit in together with chess, bridge and backgammon in this category of sports?

Maybe not quite so up next to chess (another sport that I enjoy playing whenever an opportunity arises), but it certainly is a sport of the mind!!! Skills are the most important although at times the luck decides the fate of a hand.

When you are at the game table what are your strengths?

I think the most important is the fact that I always, even in difficult moments, trust myself because what matters in poker the most is self confidence. I think I have many weaknesses, but I try to manage them and hide them so my opponents do not notice them.

What are your future plans in of Poker?

In the future I will try to attend as many events as the time affords me to, and I hope I will be as successful as I was this year’s PokerFest J. Also this year I want to have a great result in a major tournament across the border too.

What hobbies do you have? How do you spend your free time?

I am a dynamic person and I like competitive sports. I playing football at least once a week, I like swimming, but I Poker takes up most of my free time.

What is your advice for the players who want to succeed a performance like yours and win a PokerFest Main Event?

I don’t know if you I am entitled to give advice, but I would tell them to have confidence in their powers because at some point, they will bear fruit. La 30 de ani se ocupă de o afacere în domeniul amanetului, schimbului valutar şi comercializarea de bijuterii şi ceasuri de lux. După ce în trecut Marian şi-a dorit să devină medic veterinar, acum s-a orientat către Facultatea de Electrică şi Ştiinţa Calculatoarelor.

Cum ai început să joci poker? Este pokerul pentru tine un hobby, sau un mod de viaţă, un job?

Plăcerea pentru poker este mai veche,  de când eram copil şi jucam acel poker cu 5 cărţi de care îmi amintesc şi acum că jucam pe vignette de chibrituri şi era tare distractiv. De când am descoperit pokerul Texas Hold’em care este mult mai palpitant şi mai complex, a devenit o parte din mine. Nu este un mod de viaţă pentru că am o afacere pentru care sunt dedicat, dar pokerul face parte din viaţa mea. Spiritul de competiţie, adrenalină şi de ce nu, un câştig financiar m-au făcut să iubesc acest joc.

Ce tipuri de poker îţi place să joci mai mult? Hold’em, Omaha, Five Card? De ce? 

Cel mai mult îmi place Hold’em şi foarte rar joc Omaha pentru că se apropie foarte mult de un joc de noroc.

Preferi să joci poker în evenimente live sau online? De ce?

De departe prefer jocul live. Sunt dependent de adrenalină iar în faţa calculatorului nu acumulezi decât o mică parte, cel puţin aşa stau lucrurile în cazul meu. Online ţintesc doar turneele de mare anvergură cu premii foarte mari .

Îţi plac mai mult jocurile cash sau turneele?

Pe primul loc se clasează turneele dar pentru că nu prea am mult timp liber şi turneele se desfăşoară pe o perioadă lungă de timp, joc şi cash câteva ore de 2-3 ori pe săptămână.

Care este modul tău de a juca poker? Îţi alegi o strategie când te aşezi la masă, sau te adaptezi în funcţie de adversari?

Când mă aşez la masa de joc nu intru cu o strategie dar încerc să-mi fac o strategie în timpul jocului. Strategia o fac şi în funcţie de adversari şi încerc să anticipez şi strategia lor. Nu îmi place să-mi subestimez adversarii fie ei şi începători.

De curând ai câştigat Main Eventul PokerFest Bucureşti, ce a însemnat pentru tine această victorie?

Această victorie a însemnat foarte mult pentru mine. O victorie frumoasă şi zic eu meritată, pentru că pe tot parcursul turneului am fost numai pe podium. Această performanţă uriaşă mă face să merg cu gândul tot mai sus şi totodată cu încredere de a participa la cât mai multe turnee.

Cum au fost jucătorii pe care i-ai întâlnit la PokerFest şi în special cei de la masa finală?

În general, la turneele PokerFest vin jucători foarte buni şi experimentaţi. Dintre jucătorii de la masa finală, cunoşteam câţiva printre care şi pe Dan Murariu care după părerea multora este printre cei mai buni jucători de turnee din România. Am avut teamă pentru că ştiam că sunt mult mai experimentaţi ca mine şi am încercat să fac un joc la fel de bun cum l-am făcut pe toată perioada turneului.

În ultima vreme se merge foarte mult pe ideea de “poker sport al minţii”, tu ce crezi pokerul se poate încadra alături de şah, bridge sau backgammon în această categorie de sporturi?

Poate nu chiar atât de sus alături de şah (un alt sport pe care îl practic cu plăcere de câte ori se iveşte câte o ocazie), dar cu siguranţă este un sport al minţii!!! Abilităţile sunt cele mai importante deşi în unele momente norocul decide soarta unei mâini.

Care sunt punctele tale forte la masa de joc?

Consider că cel mai important este faptul că am întotdeauna încredere în mine chiar şi în momentele dificile pentru că în poker contează cel mai mult încrederea de sine. Cred că am mai multe puncte slabe, pe care încerc însă să le gestionez şi să le ascund astfel încât adversarii mei să nu le observe.

Care sunt planurile tale de viitor în ceea ce priveşte pokerul?

Pe viitor încerc să particip la cât mai multe turnee atât cât îmi permite timpul, şi sper să am reuşite la fel de mari ca cea de la PokerFest. Anul acesta îmi propun să fac o figură frumoasă şi la un turneu important de peste graniţă.

Ce hobby-uri ai? Cum îţi petreci timpul liber?

Sunt o persoană dinamică şi îmi plac sporturile în care există competiţie. Joc fotbal cel puţin o dată pe săptămână, îmi place să înot, dar pokerul îmi ocupă majoritatea timpului liber.

Ce transmiţi jucătorilor care îşi doresc să facă o performanţă ca a ta, câştigarea unui Main Event PokerFest?

Nu ştiu dacă sunt în măsură să dau sfaturi, dar le transmit să aibe încredere în puterile lor pentru că la un moment dat vor da roade. Multă muncă şi să joace cât mai mult.
