The first casino resort in the city of Vladivostok, Russia is now under construction, the local government in the Primorsky region announced, according to official media. Vladivostok is one of the four regions allocated by the Russian government to have gaming. The Russian Government want 12 casinos with the first phase of a three-part rollout to be completed by 2016 and a planned total investment of about $2 billion. The first stage of the gambling zone project, due to be completed by 2015, is supervised by the region’s governor Vladimir Miklushevsky, who said casinos would serve as an “anchor” for developing the region’s tourism infrastructure. Under the plan, casinos, hotels, a yacht club, a multipurpose trade and entertainment center as well as many other tourist and recreation facilities will be built in the Primorsky gambling zone.
In July, Nash Dom Primorye, the wholly owned government developer in Vladivostok, released a Request for Concepts inviting major gaming companies to submit ideas for the first phase of the development. Nash Dom Primorye said it was willing to trade zero gaming taxes for creating jobs and developing the area’s tourism industry. The first hotel-casino is not being built by an American company.
Vladivostok is also infamous as a criminal haven.
