Este ziua în care porțile gloriei s-au deschis larg pentru americanul Travis Pastrana și i-au arătat calea spre supremație. Acolo unde până în prezent lumea știa că se află inegalabilul Evel Knievel, dar care a eșuat în încercarea de a transforma în legendă saltul peste fântânile de la Caesar’s Palace.

Mai mult, în 1967, după ce a căzut la aterizare, Knievel a stat în comă 30 de zile și a avut nevoie de o lungă perioadă de refacere după ce a avut rupte nu mai puțin de 40 de oase. Acest cascador neînfricat i-a fost idol lui Pastrana. Și pentru a-i duce mai departe moștenirea, la 8 iulie a bătut nu mai puțin de trei recorduri. Îmbrăcat într-un costum similar maestrului, Travis și-a făcut încălzirea cu un salt de aproximativ 44 de metri peste 52 de mașini stivuite, câte trei pe verticală. A terminat fără probleme  în zona cuprinsă între Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, Paris Las Vegas și Bally’s Las Vegas, ba chiar spațiul lăsat la aterizare a dovedit că recordul poate fi îmbunătățit.

Una dintre performanțele lui Knievel – salt de aproximativ 37 de metri peste 50 de mașini, pe stadionul Coliseum din Los Angeles –  fusese deja bătută. A urmat o altă  încercare dificilă, zborul de aproximativ 59 de metri peste 16 autobuze, cu două mai multe decât sărise Knievel în octombrie 1975, la King’s Island, Ohio. Din nou succes și drum liber către săritura iconică peste fântânile de la Caesar’s Palace.

Ce n-a reușit idolul, a reușit cu ușurință discipolul. 45 de metri de zbor lin și o aterizare fără cusur. Chiar dacă săritura nu a fost mai lungă decât cele de dinainte, a fost cea mai periculoasă și mai tehnică dintre toate. Înainte de saltul înspăimântător, Pastrana a făcut o tură de recunoaștere în apropierea rampei de lansare, după care și-a luat zborul. Să nu credeți acum că întreaga carieră a lui Travis Pastrana a fost ferită de evenimente negative. De-a lungul carierei a suferit multiple accidentări, dar au fost atât de multe încât… le-a uitat numărul, după cum chiar Travis mărturisește. Pe lângă dislocarea coloanei vertebrale de pelvis – trei luni a mers doar în scaunul cu rotile -, a suferit rupturi multiple de ligamente, anterioare, posterioare, laterale, medii, încrucișate fiind supus în dese rânduri unor intervenții chirurgicale la ambii genunchi. A fost operat la încheietura mâinii stângi, la spate, la cot, în vreme ce în urma intervenției chirurgicale la umăr s-a ales și cu o bucată de metal în corp.

“La 18 ani, am suferit mai multe contuzii la rând. Am încercat să le depășesc, dar m-am trezit foarte bolnav, în condițiile în care nu puteam să fac ceva. Așa că am decis să mă urc în mașini, dar din fericire am dat peste un mecanic, pe care l-am rănit. A fost prima dată când am fost într-adevăr într-o stare de depresie, îmi pierdusem drumul, Singura dorință era să mă urc pe motocicletă și să conduc și am fost… Fizic însă, nu știam dacă pot”,  s-a confesat Travis.

Pastrana este probabil cel mai faimos competitor din circuitele de sporturi extreme, realizând unele dintre cele mai elaborate cascadorii. El este singurul om care a reușit un dublu backflip, adică două rotiri complete de 360 de grade cu motocicleta.

În octombrie 2013 și-a unit destinele cu Lyn-Z Adams Hawkins, skateboarder profesionist, iar în septembrie 2013 au avut primul copil, pe Addy Ruth. Al doilea copil, tot o fetiță, Bristol Murphy, a venit pe lume în februarie 2015.

În afara curselor, Pastrana a găzduit, a produs și a creat showul Nitro Circus pentru canalul MTV. Showul îi prezintă pe prietenii lui Travis care călătoresc în jurul lumii și fac în fața publicului cascadorii nebunești. Showul a fost atât de popular încât a fost lansat un tur pentru cei care au dorit să însoțească echipa, precum și un film 3D. Între 2012 și 2013 a apărut în primul lui serial, În Ritm cu Pastrana.
