White Turf – Switzerland

Introduction

The first horse race in Switzerland took place on September 29th 1872 on Allmend Wollishofen in Zurich. In this country, horse races on a turf are special happenings, as they are neither financially nor logistically ed by horse breeders and, consequently, they cannot be considered as part of an industry, as we can see in other countries, which are much more developed from this point of view. Nevertheless, the tradition exists and the races are still organized on many swiss tracks.

What is White Turf?

On the 7^th, 14^th and 21^st of February 2016 will take place the famous snow and ice races in St. Moritz, Switzerland. The White Turf is the place that hosts this amazing destination. It’s a special event, taking place in a fairytale atmosphere and near a frozen lake surrounded by crowned heads and snowy mountains.

The White Turf is a complete show displaying horses and jockeys coming from all the corners of the world, trainers and owners, but also a wonderful public place where one can enjoy champagne, good food and quality music, together competing to offer an extraordinary mix of adrenaline, good will and novelty.

The City Hall of St. Moritz and the local tourism office, together with the sponsors of this manifestation fully contribute to the success of this equestrian event old of over 100 years.

The organizing Committee together with a team of professionals always manages to offer to the 35.000 participants 3 days of unforgettable competitions. On top of that, visitors can have the opportunity to win unforgettable holidays in luxurious hotels.

The History of White Turf

The first ice race took place in 1906 somewhere between St. Moritz and Champfer, and the participants did not start all at once from the start line, but one at a time, one at each minute. Philip Mark and his horse Blitz were the fastest, managing to cover the entire distance of 10 km in just 22 minutes and 22 seconds.

,After a period of time, in 1923, a group of entrepreneurs organized the first competition in St. Moritz, 5 years before the second edition of the Winter Olympics held in the city of St. Moritz between February 11^th  and February 19^th in 1928. As the years ed, this competition evolved and reached a certain level of standardization, a reason why the horses’ and jockeys’ equipments are colored, so that the participants can easily see the snow and prevent accidents. Think about the fact that in 1965 no horse and man team could after the finish line because of the problems encountered on the track.

About White Turf

White Turf is one of the most important events organized by the “Top Events of Switzerland” association, which promotes the image of a dynamic country, in which culture and sport are interwoven in the most amazing way. Consequently, “Top Events of Switzerland” also organizes: Art Basel, The Jazz Festival of Montreux, Locarno Film Festival, Lucerne Festival, Weltklasse Zürich, European Masters Crans Montana and Ski World Cup Wengen.

The program for the three days of Sunday includes very interesting races. For example, on February 7^th 2016 will take place 6 races covering distances between 1300 and 2700 meters, with awards between 15.000 and 38.500 Swiss francs.

On the other side, on February 14^th 2016 will take place 7 races, and the horses will cover distances between 1600 and 2700 meters.

On the final day, on February 21^st 2016, will take place the most important races, including the Grand Prix of St. Moritz, on a distance of 2000 meters, and the winner will take a spectacular financial prize: 111.111 Swiss francs.

White Turf – Elveția

Introducere

Prima cursă de cai din Elveția a avut loc pe 29 septembrie1872 pe Allmend Wollishofen în Zurich. În această țară, cursele de cai pe „gazon”au un caracter special deoarece nu sunt ate nici financiar și nici logistic de crescătorii de cai și, prin urmare, nu constituie o industrie în sine, așa cum este cazul în străinătate, în țările mai dezvoltate din acest punct de vedere. Cu toate acestea, tradiția există și s-a păstrat pe mai multe piste de curse elvețiene.

Ce este White Turf?

În zilele de 7, 14 și 21 februarie 2016 vor avea loc celebrele curse pe zăpadă și gheață din St. Moritz, Elveția.

The White Turf este locul unde se află acest loc special. Un eveniment de top, într-o atmosferă de basm, pe un lac înghețat înconjurat de capetele încoronate cu zăpadă ale munților.

Hipodromul Alb este un spectacol total unde cai și jockey veniți din toate colțurile lumii, antrenori și proprietari, dar și un public local minunat combinat cu o șampanie la gheață, mâncare bună și muzică de bună calitate oferă un mix extraordinar de adrenalină, bună dispoziție și inedit.

Evident că primăria din St. Moritz și biroul local de turism, alături de sponsorii manifestării contribuie din plin la reușita de peste 100 de ani a acestui event ecvestru.

Comitetul de organizare alături de echipa lor de profesioniști reușesc de fiecare dată să ofere celor peste 35,000 de participanți 3 zile de competiții de neuitat. În plus, vizitatorii pot avea oportunitatea câștigării unor vacanțe de neuitat în hoteluri de lux.

Istoria lui White Turf

Prima cursă pe gheață s-a ținut în 1906 între St. Moritz și Champfèr, iar participanții nu au plecat toți deodată de la linia de start, ci pe rând, la intervale de câte 1 minut. Philip Mark și calul său, Blitz, au fost cei mai rapizi, reușind în 20 de minute și 22 de secunde să acopere distanța de 10 kilometri ai traseului.

Însă după o vreme, în 1923, un grup de întreprinzători, au organizat prima întrecere în St. Moritz, asta cu 5 ani înainte de a doua ediție a Olimpiadei de Iarnă ținută în orașul St. Moritz în perioada 11-19 februarie în anul 1928. Odată cu trecerea anilor această competiție a evoluat și a trecut la un anumit nivel de standardizare, astfel că echipamentul cailor și al jockeylor este colorat pentru ca participanții la întrecere să se observe mai ușor în zăpadă iar accidentele să fie din ce în ce mai puține. Gândiți-vă că în 1965 nici un cuplu cal-om nu a putut trece linia de sosire datorită nenumăratelor probleme apărute în cursă!

White Turf face parte din rândul celor mai importante evenimente organizate de asociația The “Top Events of Switzerland” care promovează imaginea unei Elveții dinamice, o țară în care cultura și sportul se împletesc în cel mai fericit mod cu putință. Programul celor 3 duminici include curse foarte interesante. De exemplu, pe 7 februarie 2016 vor fi 6 curse ce vor fi parcurse pe distanțe cuprinse între 1300 și 2700 de metri, cu premii cuprinse între 15,000 și 38,500 de franci elvețieni.

În schimb, pe 14 februarie 2016 vor avea loc 7 curse, iar caii vor alerga curse pe distanțe între 1600 și 2700 de metri.

În ziua finală, pe 21 februarie 2016, vor avea loc cele mai importante curse, inclusiv the Grand Prix of St. Moritz pe distanța de 2000 de metri, iar câștigătorul va avea parte de un premiu financiar important: 111,111 franci elvețieni.
