If you are in Las Vegas and want to take a break from the game tables or to stretch your legs after staying too much at the slots, then you should not miss the Terry Fator show. Whether you had a good or bad day, you will likely exit the show with a smile on your face.

By the mid-70s, Terry Fator was a fifth grade student. He had fallen for a classmate of his and as Valentines Day was approaching, he was searching for ideas to surprise her. He went to the library to find a book which could help him, but instead he found the „Ventriloquist – for fun and profit” by Paul Winchell. It was truly love at first sight.

Little Terry started to read the book and liked it so much that he began to learn ventriloquism. Only a few weeks later, he was buying his first Willie Talk, a talking doll, and later had to perform his first show at a church picnic, for which he was to be rewarded with $ 25. Although he was a child, Fator always managed to entertain family and friends with his new skill. Parents have ed him in his ion and his mother raised money for three years in order to be able to buy him for his 18th anniversary his first puppet.

The man who revolutionized the ventriloquism

Even since he was a young boy Terry had high aspirations, and after he had discovered his ion and he realized he did not want to be just some ventriloquist, but even more than that: he aimed to revolutionize this entertainment branch, to become one of the most popular artists in the field. As he was driving to various shows, he got the idea to combine music with his ventriloquist shows. „One of the ways I learned to sing as a ventriloquist was that I like to sing in the car. I often see people singing in their cars and look funny, so I thought I should sing too, but without moving my lips,” Terry would say.

The move was a success for him and he would become part of two musical bands. In 1988 he started a tour with „Freedom Jam” and has performed in over 200 schools and high schools in the US and Canada, and then he was the lead singer of „Texas the Band”, and here, in his performances, he also included his puppet „Walter T . Airedale”. After leaving the second band too, he tried to make a career on his own, but initially he had little success in doing so.

The Success at the America’s got Talent

The situation became so dramatic in early 2007 that he would be performing a show in Houston, Texas, attended by only one child, aged 12. Discouraged, he decided to give up and try another career, but he was encouraged by his parents to continue and to re-launch his career and he entered in the second season of the famous show “America’s got talent”.

At the auditions in Chicago, Terry managed to impress the jury with the song „At Last” by Etta James and he was selected to participate in the show. Then followed two rounds in which he managed to remain safe, with the songs „What a Wonderful World” (Louis Armstrong) and „Unforgettable” (Nat King Cole). To keep himself in the show and in the top 8, he sang two songs, just like when he reached the top 4. At the Grand Final he sang „You’ve Got a Friend” by James Taylor, helped by his puppets, Johny Vegas and Kermit the Frog. His performance was so adored by the jury and the public that he was elected the big winner of the show and was awarded with one million dollars!

Consecration

With the success found at the „American’s got Talent,” Fator has succeeded to achieve his objective: people were talking about him again and his show became popular. He began to receive more and more offers and he was also called to Las Vegas WAS to perform on the exact same stage where Elvis Presley used to play for several years in raw. The tickets were sold out very quickly, thus another show has scheduled.

In December 2007, Las Vegas Hilton offered him a contract for $ 1.5 million to perform three shows per month from January to May 2008.

The Big Pot

His numbers were so successful and attracted so many people that, after having concluded the contract with Las Vegas Hilton, he was spotted immediately by The Mirage casino, which offered him 100 million dollars in order to perform every night, for five years. This contract is now considered as one of the biggest contracts to have been offered to an entertainment artist ever in the history of Las Vegas.

His contract was extended in 2013 and Terry can be found even today at „The Mirage”, where he performs every evening. A ticket to his show starts at $ 65.

Dacă vă aflați în Las Vegas și vreți să luați o pauză de la mesele de joc sau să vă dezmorțiți corpul ce poate a stat prea mult în fața sloturilor, atunci nu trebuie să ratați un show susținut de Terry Fator. Fie că ați avut o zi bună sau proastă, există mari șanse să ieșiți de la spectacol cu zâmbetul pe buze.

Pe la mijlocul anilor ’70, Terry Fator era elev în clasa a cincea. Îi picase cu tronc o colegă și cum se apropia ziua de Sfântul Valentin, căuta idei pentru a putea să o surprindă.  A mers la bibliotecă încercând să găsească o carte care să îl ajute, însă, în schimb, a dat peste ”Ventrilocia – pentru distracție și profit”, de Paul Winchell. A fost adevărată dragoste la prima vedere.

Micuțul Terry s-a apucat să citească cartea și i-a plăcut atât de mult încât a început să învețe ventrilocia. Peste doar câteva săptămâni, își cumpără primul Willie Talk, o păpușă vorbitoare, iar mai târziu avea să susțină primul său show la un picnic bisericesc, pentru care avea să fie răsplătit cu 25$. Deși era copil, Fator reușea mereu să își distreze familia și prietenii cu noua lui abilitate. Părinții l-au susținut mult, iar mama lui a strâns timp de trei ani bani pentru a-i face cadou la 18 ani prima lui marionetă.

Omul care a revoluționat ventrilocia

Terry avea încă de când era tânăr ambiții mari, iar după ce și-a descoperit pasiunea și-a dat seama că nu vrea să fie un ventriloc oarecare, ci chiar mai mult de atât: și-a propus să revoluționeze această ramură de divertisment și să devină unul dintre cei mai populari artiști din domeniu. Pe când își conducea mașina la diverse spectacole, i-a venit ideea de a combina muzica cu numerele sale de ventriloc. ”Una din modalitățile prin care am învățat să cânt ca ventriloc a fost faptul că îmi place să cânt în mașină. Văd deseori persoane care cântă în mașinile lor și arată ciudat, așa că m-am gândit să cânt și eu, dar fără să îmi mișc buzele”, avea să afirme Terry.

Aceast mutare a fost una de succes pentru el și avea să fie inclus în două trupe muzicale. În 1988 a pornit într-un turneu cu ”Freedom Jam” și a susținut spectacole în peste 200 licee și școli din SUA și Canada, iar mai apoi a fost solistul formației ”Texas the Band” unde și-a inclus și marioneta ”Walter T. Airedale” în spectacole. După ce a părăsit și cea de-a doua trupă, a încercat să își facă o carieră pe cont propriu, însă inițial nu a avut prea mult succes.

Succesul de la Americanii au Talent

Situația ajunsese atât de dramatică încât la începutul lui 2007 avea să susțină un spectacol în Houston, Texas, la care a participat un singur copil în vârstă de 12 ani. Descurajat, s-a gândit să renunțe și să încerce altă carieră, însă a fost încurajat de părinți să continue, iar pentru a-și relansa cariera s-a înscris în sezonul al doilea al celebrului show ”Americanii au Talent”.

La audițiile din Chicago, Terry a reușit să impresioneze juriul cu melodia ”At last”, de Etta James și a fost selectat fără emoții să participe în show. Au urmat două runde în care a reușit să se mențină în siguranță cu melodiile ”What a Wonderful World” (Louis Armstrong) și ”Unforgettable” (Nat King Cole). Pentru a se menține în siguranță și în top 8 a cântat două melodii, la fel ca și atunci când a ajuns în top 4. În marea finală a cântat ”You’ve Got a Friend”, de James Taylor, ajutat de păpușile sale Johny Vegas și Kermit the Frog. Prestația sa a fost adorată atât de juriu, cât și de public, așa că a fost ales marele câștigător al show-ului și a primit premiul de un milion de dolari!

Consacrarea

Prin succesul pe care l-a avut la ”Americanii au Talent”, Fator a reușit să își îndeplinească obiectivul: lumea vorbea din nou de el, iar show-urile sale erau populare. A început să primească tot mai multe oferte și a fost chemat în Las Vegas pentru a susține un moment artistic chiar pe scena pe care Elvis Presley concertase timp de mai mulți ani. Biletele s-au vândut foarte repede, așa că a mai fost programat un spectacol.

În decembrie 2007, Las Vegas Hilton i-a oferit un contract de 1,5 milioane de dolari pentru a susține câte trei show-uri pe lună din ianuarie până în mai 2008.

Potul cel mare

Momentele sale erau atât de reușite și atrăgeau numeroase persoane, încât, după ce și-a încheiat contractul cu Las Vegas Hilton, a fost ochit imediat de cazinoul The Mirage, care i-a oferit 100 de milioane de dolari pentru a susține spectacole în fiecare noapte, timp de cinci ani. Acest contract este considerat și acum drept unul dintre cele mai mari oferite unui artist de divertisment în istoria Las Vegasului.

Contractul său a fost prelungit în 2013, iar Terry poate fi găsit și în prezent la ”The Mirage” unde susține spectacole în fiecare seară. Un bilet la show-ul său pornește de la 65$.
