How was the year 2012 to you, how would you describe it?

I can say that 2012 was good to me, even years usually are. 2012 was a good poker year for me, I entered the deep of the WSOP Main Event, in October I won PokerFest, I also “hit” several online tournaments, so I am in titled to say that last year was a prosperous year for me.

Comparing the old version of FullTilt Poker with the one following its re-launch, what can you say?

I can say that all sites went down after the Black Friday, the tournament prizes are smaller and the games became more difficult. I believe that FullTilt tries to get home, but they are not bold enough. For example, I consider that tournaments could offer greater prizes, the sum could be even doubled, and in this way they could attract larger fields, bringing more players forth to the game tables, recreational players, and not only regular ones. In conclusion, I believe that the guaranteed prizes of the tournaments should be increased and the cash games should throw in some promotions or raises, because FullTilt is behind PokerStars.

What changes have you noticed in the evolution of online poker?

It gets more and more difficult, the recreational players are becoming increasingly rare. I the beginnings, when they were literary throwing chips away, they were lost, but now there are no week players, thus for somebody who wants to start learning poker now it is very hard to resist. All games tend to better, therefore everybody plays good and when you play only against good players it is very important to vary, it is very important how you roll in order to turn a profit.

Is Romanian poker heading into the right direction in term of poker tournaments, PokerFest?

If we retrospect to PokerFest then we are heading a very good direction. When here in Bucharest, we have 300 players entering a tournament with a €1000 buy-in, which is a difficult to get even in Europe, we can say that this is a top tournament. I have noticed the presence of players from all around Romania and from abroad too, for example the last PokerFest stage was won by a Bulgarian player.

How do you see the future of Poker having regard to all the conversation above?

I try not to make forecasts because I cannot realize what the future will bring us. On one hand the Americans try to reenter the online gaming market, on the other hand the rest of the countries tend to restrict and localize online poker, giving up on the idea of poker globalization. The future is somewhat cloudy, we will see what it will bring us and we will adapt.

Some say that online poker creates new players, players that grow into playing also in casinos and big tournaments, do you agree? 

It is true, if we look at the players entering the deep lately, we discover young players only, there are no 50-60 years old “fossils”. When I started playing poker, everybody saw me as a kid, but now we see 18 years old kids in Europe or 21 in USA coming with millions of hands played on the internet, thus getting a great advantage of the other players. After a short accommodation period, switching from the online game to live, they have the edge over the other players.

What tasks do you want to reach in 2013, which are your poker expectations?

Although I feel tired, I will try to participate to as many tournaments as possible, I will make amore rigorous selection of the tournaments and I will try to be in one tournament each month, mostly EPT tournaments; for example, I gave the Irish Open up because I was loosing a lot of time getting there and back.  I will participate to WPT Barcelona, EPT Berlin, PokerFest, if I do not qualify for Monte Carlo, then I will go to the WSOP, where I want to be present from the beginning and I will play all side events under $3000. After the WSOP I will consult the EPT program for the autumn season and I will decide what to do then.

Can you see poker playing on a stadium?

You are referring to the ISPT from Wembley. Its hard to say, it seems to be a serious and interesting tournament but I will not be there because, as I have already said I will participate at the WSOP, nevertheless I will pry on it on the internet, I am very curios to see how it will go.

What message do you have for the young players (and not only) who appraise you?  

To stick to their business, to be whole-hearted and to keep working, but also to keep out of mischief and not to dig their toes in endlessly.O discuţie plăcută cum, de obicei, avem cu un mare om şi jucător de poker, Mihai Manole nu se dezminte şi ne vorbeşte simplu şi onest despre anul 2012, despre poker şi despre cum vede el acest fenomen în viitor, depre planurile şi turneele pe care le are de bifat anul acesta. Cum a fost anul 2012 pentru tine, cum l-ai caracteriza?

Pot spune că 2012 a fost un an bun pentru mine, de obicei anii pari sunt buni pentru mine. Din punct de vedere pokeristic a fost ok 2012, am intrat deep în Main Event la WSOP, am câştigat PokerFest-ul în octombrie, am mai “lovit” şi câteva turnee online, deci pot spune că mi-a mers bine anul trecut.

Cum percepi FullTilt Poker acum, după redeschidere, în comparaţie cu ce era înainte?

Pot spune că toate site-urile au mai scăzut după Black Friday, nu mai sunt premiile atât de mari la turnee şi jocurile sunt mai grele. Despre FullTilt pot spune că încearcă o redresare dar nu sunt suficient de îndrăzneţi. De exemplu, turneele ar putea avea premiile garantate mai mari sau chiar duble şi cred eu că astfel ar atrage field-uri mai mari aducând la mese şi jucători recreaţionali nu doar regulari, cum se întâmplă acum. În concluzie, consider că ar trebui să mărească premiile la turneele garantate iar la cash games ar trebui să introducă promoţii sau raise-uri pentru că în comparaţie cu PokerStars, FullTilt este în urmă.

Ce schimbări ai observat în evoluţia pokerului online?

Este din ce în ce mai greu, jucătorii recreaţionali sunt tot mai rari. Îmi amintesc de începuturi, când pur şi simplu aruncau fisele, nu ştiau ce se întâmplă cu ei, acum nu mai vezi jucători slabi, astfel că pentru cineva care ar dori să se apuce să înveţe poker acum este foarte greu să reziste. Toate jocurile tind să progreseze, astfel că toată lumea joacă foarte bine şi jucând numai cu playeri buni conteaza mult variaţia, contează cum rulezi pentru a putea să ieşi pe plus.

Pokerul românesc este într-o direcţie bună, ne referim la turnee, la PokerFest?

Dacă ne raportăm la PokerFest atunci suntem într-o direcţie foarte bună. Vedeţi că în Bucureşti la un turneu de 1000 euro buy-in avem peste 300 de jucători, un număr destul de greu de atins chiar şi în Europa, putem spune că este un turneu de top. Am observat că avem jucători din toată ţara şi chiar din străinătate, vezi ultima etapa PokerFest unde a câştigat un bulgar.

Cum vezi viitorul pokerului având în vedere toată discuţia de mai sus?

Mă feresc să fac previziuni pentru că nu îmi pot da seama ce va fi în viitor. Pe de o parte, americanii doresc o reintrare în piaţa jocurilor online, pe de altă parte, restul ţărilor tind să îngrădească, să regionalizeze pokerul online, renunţându-se astfel la globalizarea fenomenului. Este oarecum tulbure viitorul, vom vedea ce va fi şi ne vom adapta.

Se spune că pokerul online creează jucători noi care ajung să joace în cazinouri, la turneele mari, eşti de acord cu această afirmaţie?

Aşa este, dacă urmărim turneele mari observăm că jucătorii care ajung deep în ultimele mese sunt numai jucători tineri, nu mai vedem “fosilele” de 50-60 de ani. Când m-am apucat şi eu de poker, toţi mă priveau ca pe un puşti, dar acum vedem copii de la 18 ani în Europa sau de la 21 de ani în SUA, care vin cu pachete de milioane de mâini jucate pe net având astfel un avantaj foarte mare în faţa celorlalţi. După o scurtă perioadă de acomodare de la online la live au mare avantaj în faţa celorlalţi jucători.

Ce obiective ţi-ai stabilit pentru 2013, care sunt aşteptările tale pe plan pokeristic?

O să încerc să particip la cât mai multe turnee cu toate că am cam obosit, o să fac o selecţie mai riguroasă şi o să încerc să merg la un turneu pe lună, în mare parte la EPT-uri, am renunţat la Irish Open pentru că pierdeam foarte mult timp pe drum, de exemplu. O să merg la WPT Barcelona, EPT Berlin, PokerFest, în cazul în care nu mă voi califica la Monte Carlo, după care voi merge la WSOP unde îmi doresc să fiu prezent încă de la început, unde voi juca toate side event-urile sub 3000$. După WSOP o să văd programul sezonului de toamnă EPT şi voi decide la acel moment ce voi face.

Vezi pokerul jucându-se pe stadion?

Te referi la ISPT-ul ce se va ține pe Wembley. Nu ştiu ce să spun, pare un turneu serios şi interesant, dar la care nu voi participa pentru că aşa cum am spus o să merg la WSOP, dar o să urmăresc pe internet cu atenţie acest turneu pentru că sunt curios cum se va desfăşura.

Ce le transmiţi jucătorilor tineri şi nu numai , care te apreciază?

Să se ţină de treabă, să fie serioşi şi să îşi vadă de munca lor, să nu renunţe, dar nici să nu facă prostii şi să se încăpăţâneze la nesfârşit.
