The Italian Pirate, as Max Pescatori use to call himself, is a player who drew our attention by chance, when referring to the WSOP classification, according to the number of bracelets and rings, being on the 30th place with 4 WSOP champion bracelets and 2 rings, and being the first European in this classification dominated by Americans and Canadians, the 50th place being barely occupied by another European, the famous Dominik Nitsche. 4t3hi

The beginnings

Born on 22^nd of January 1971, in Milan, Massimiliano Pescatori, his real name, fell in love with the card games since he was young, but since his childhood he had been having a ion for another sport for a long period of time: football.

During a vacation with his family and friends, Max found out what was the card game and he ed with his father for a Scopa competition, a card game very popular in Italy. Pescatori and his father won the contest, and from that moment Massimiliano seemed to be extremely interested of card games.

When he was 15 he leant playing poker and he actually felt in love with this game. At 23 he went to Las Vegas to play poker and he did not even speak English. Since he was born Max had been a 7 Card Stud player, but he could not earn so much money as from Texas Hold’em, so he retrained.

The American adventure begins  

In 1998 he went to Vegas to play more cash games with SB of 4$ and BB of 8$ and there he met his future mentor, Valter Farina, who was the only bracelet winner in Italy at that time. After only 1 year of partnership with him, Max became a professional poker player. In 2002 he began playing more often in tournaments and, to the end of the year, he competed at Bellagio Five Diamond Poker Classic with a buy-in of 500$ and ended on the 6^th place winning 4278$. Bankroll and his Résumé in poker started to come to prominence. In March 2003, he played in two tournaments in Reno at World Poker Challenge, one of Limit Hold’em and the other one of Omaha Hi/Lo, and he won them both. In August 2004, he played in the Legends of Poker tournament, Los Angeles, where he paid a 200$, buy-in, but he won the 1^st place and 106,630$ by defeating Phi Nguyen in heads-up.

Great victories

On 9^th of July 2006 on the 37^th edition of WSOP, at the event number 13, 2500$ No Limit Hold’em, he hit the first jackpot in his career and won the tournament and the bracelet after defeating a field of 1290 players including: Mike Matusow, Erick Lindgren or Men Nguyen, receiving 682,389$.

Encouraged by this success, in March of the following year he won the first place at Italian Poker Championships carried on at San Remo in amount of 103,120€ .

In 2008 he won a new bracelet at Event #24: $2,500 Pot-Limit Hold’em/Omaha where he defeated Kyle Kloeckner from US in the final.

Until 2015 he had constantly been played both live and online and he kept on performing his game, and he had repeatedly been cashing in the big tournaments – WSOP, EPTs or WPTs, yet he failed to make the final tables.

On 3^rd of June he won the 1500$ Seven Card Razz tournament managing to defeat a number of 462 players and achieving the third WSOP bracelet in his career! For this performance he also collected 155,947$.

At the same 49^th WSOP edition, he invested 10,000$ in the Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better Championship (Event #41) tournament and he did well because so he managed to win the fourth worldwide bracelet! Among the competitors he defeated at the final table were famous professionals like Daniel Negreanu (3^rd place), Alexander Denisov (4^th place) or Philip Galfond (16^th place).

He also wrote two poker books: Giocare e vincere a poker online (2009) in collaboration with Dario De Toffoli and A scuola di poker (2010), in collaboration with the same Dario De Toffoli and Giorgio Sigon.

The Italian Pirate, așa cum își mai spune Max Pescatori, este un jucător care ne-a atras atenția întâmplător consultând clasamentul WSOP după numărul de brățări și inele, ocupând locul 30 cu 4 brățări și 2 inele de campion WSOP, fiind primul european în acest clasament dominat de americani și canadieni, abia locul 50 fiind ocupat de un alt european, celebrul Dominik Nitsche.

Începuturile

Născut pe 22 ianuarie 1971 la Milano, Massimiliano Pescatori, pe numele său adevărat, s-a îndrăgostit de jocurile de cărți încă de tânăr, însă mult timp, în copilăria sa, a mai avut o pasiune pentru un sport: fotbalul.

În timpul unei vacanțe cu familia și prietenii săi, Max a aflat ce este jocul de cărți înscriindu-se cu tatăl său la un concurs de Scopa, un joc de cărți foarte popular în Italia. Pescatori și tatăl său câștigă concursul, iar din acel moment Massimiliano se arată foarte interesat de jocurile cu cărți.

La vârsta de 15 ani învață să joace poker și practic se îndrăgostește de joc. La vârsta de 23 de ani pleacă în Las Vegas ca să joace poker și nici măcar nu cunoaștea engleza. De când se știe Max a fost un jucător de 7 Card Stud, însă nu se câștigau bani așa cum se făcea din Texas Hodem, așa că s-a reprofilat.

Începe aventura americană  

În 1998 pleacă în Vegas să joace mai multe partide cashgame cu SB de 4$ si BB de 8$ și îl întâlnește pe viitorul său mentor, Valter Farina, pe atunci singurul câștigător de brățară provenit din Italia. După numai 1 an de parteneriat cu acesta, Max devine jucător de poker profesionist. În 2002 începe să joace turnee din ce în ce mai des și spre sfârșitul anului participă la Bellagio Five Diamond Poker Classic cu buy-in de 500$ și termină pe locul 6 câștigând 4278$. Bankroll-ul  si CV-ul său în poker începeau să prindă contur. În martie 2003 joacă în Reno la World Poker Challenge două turnee, unul de Limit Holdem și celălalt de Omaha Hi/Lo și le câștigă pe ambele. În august 2004 joacă la turneul Legends of Poker, Los Angeles, unde plătește un buy-in de 200$, dar câștigă locul 1 și 106,630$ învingându-l la heads-up pe Phi Nguyen.

Marile victorii

Pe 9 Iulie 2006 la a 37-a ediție a WSOP, la event-ul cu numărul 13, 2500$ No Limit Holdem dă prima lovitură din carieră și câștigă turneul și prima sa brățară după ce învinge un field de 1290 de jucători printre care: Mike Matusow, Erick Lindgren sau Men Nguyen, încasând 682,389$.

Încurajat de acest succes, în luna martie a următorului an termină primul la Italian Poker Championships desfășurat la San Remo obținând 103,120€ .

În 2008 câștigă o nouă brățară la Event #24: $2,500 Pot-Limit Hold’em/Omaha unde îl învinge în finală pe Kyle Kloeckner din Statele Unite.

Până în 2015 joacă constant live și online și își îmbunătățește continuu jocul, intră în mod repetat în bani la turneele mari – WSOP, EPT-uri sau WPT-uri, dar nu face mese finale.

Pe 3 Iunie câștigă turneul de 1500$ Seven Card Razz reușind să depășească un număr de 462 de jucători și obținând a treia brățară WSOP din carieră! Pentru această performanță încasează și 155,947$.

La aceeași ediție cu numărul 49 a WSOP, investește 10,000$ în turneul Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better Championship (Event #41) și bine face pentru că așa reușește să câștige a patra brățară mondială! Printre învinșii lui de la masa finală se numără și profesioniști celebri ca Daniel Negreanu (locul 3), Alexander Denisov (locul 4) sau Philip Galfond (locul 16).
