Jack Lam is one of the most influent personalities in the gambling industry worldwide. He had owed, until recently, the biggest company supplying VIP „junkets” in Asia, Jimei International Group Ltd., specialized in supplying gamblers with such specific supplies in casinos, and which provides its services to the greatest casinos in Macao, particularly to those in the Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Macao group, controlled by Sheldon Adelson and respectively by Steve Wynn. The gamblers whom Jack Lam brings in Macao are wanted by everybody. Usually, those players are very rich (the so-called „whales”), and they mix very large amounts of money. Depending on how rich they are, they are persuaded to come alone or in groups, and they benefit from lots of facilities from the casinos.
Who is Jack Lam?
Born on Guangzhou, China, in 1961, Jack Lam Yin Lok moved to Hong Kong in 1979 to work with his uncle in a factory. In 1981, after several years where he had ed his uncle in his business trips in Macao, Lam started to work in the already prosperous gaming industry in the former Portugese colony. Shanghai Business Review described him in 2015 as being an empathic person to the rich gamblers, capable of understanding their motivations and of satisfying every of their vanity, which impelled him in top of the professional suppliers of such services in the industry. At the moment, with over 30 years of experience in the scope, Lam is one of the most influent persons in the gambling industry in Macao. In 2009, he was designated by Global Gambling Business Magazine in top 10 of the most important people in the gambling industry worldwide. Jimei International Entertaiment Group Company, which Jack Lam had controlled, and which was often called as being the greatest VIP „junkets” operator in Asia, provides its services especially to two of the most important gambling companies in Macao: Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Macao. In order to make an impression on the money wind in the “junkets” industry in Macao, for example, Jimei had a profit of 16.8 million of dollars in the first 6 months in 2016. Yet, except the collaborations in Macao, we have to mention that Jimei International has supply agreements of VIP Junkets also with other two casinos in the Western Australia – The Star Casino in Sydney and Crown Perth, but also in business in the Philippines archipelago. But, the interests in the gambling area are those which got Lam into legal troubles, the president of this country, Rodrigo Duerte, being directly involved.
The forfeiture of Philippine properties and the arrest threat
The Jimei Goup has lost the right to ister Fontana Leisure Parks and the casino, both properties being located at the former military base of the American aerial forces, Clark Freeport, after the operation license and tax exempt had been canceled. Rodrigo Duerte was elected president based on the promises made to restore the law and order in his country. When the Immigration Office in Philippine decided to arrest 1.316 Chinese who were working within the Fontana Complex in November 2016, the Secretary of the Ministry of Justice in that country accused Lam of trying to bribe him in order to release them. In this regard, one month later, Duerte ordered the release of an arrest warrant for economic sabotage and bribery against Lam and concurrently the forfeiture of his goods on the Philippine territory. Yet, a few days before the news according to which the magnate would be arrested, Lam had left Philippine, and has not been seen in public ever since. Through his Philippine lawyer, Lam decisively denied the accusations brought, which also include bribery of the president of the Philippine institution that grants licenses for gambling operation in Philippine, Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR).
Jimei is being sold
Against the background of the legal issues in Philippine, in April of this year, Jack Lam Yin Lok decided to sell all his shares (65.05%) at Jimei International Entertainment Group Ltd, a company listed on the stock exchange in Hong Kong, for the amount of 57 million dollars to Cosmic Leader Holdings Ltd., a company that has been ed in the Republic of Seychelles only three months before the transaction. Lam is to get the money in two instalments. The representatives of Jimei Company did not specified whether Lam would keep any share after the conclusion of transaction in 2018, when the second installments were to be paid. According to the official documents, the businessman Yan Xu controls 80% of the shares of Cosmic Leader Company, and the rest of 20% are held by the contractor Chen Hong, and he also has 0.4% of Jimei International. Even if the new owners of the „junket” gambling company have experience in the real estate development in China and in the entertainment industry (by financing various cinema companies or movies) or in the technological and telecommunication sector, they announced that their intention was not to change the current profile of the business, but on the contrary, they wanted to make further investments and to develop it.de Cristina Toderaș

A deținut până de curând cea mai mare companie furnizoare de VIP „junkets” din Asia, Jimei International Group Ltd., specializată în furnizarea de jucători cu acest specific în cazinouri și care oferă serviciile sale către cele mai mari cazinouri din Macao, în special celor din grupul Las Vegas Sands și Wynn Macao, controlate de Sheldon Adelson și, respectiv, Steve Wynn. Jimei se vinde

Chiar dacă noii proprietari ai firmei dedicată jucătorilor „junket” au experiență în dezvoltarea de imobiliare în China și industria divertismentului (finanțând diferite companii cinematografice sau filme) sau în sectorul tehnologic și telecomunicații, ei au anunțat că nu intenționează să schimbe actualul profil al business-ului, ba din contră, doresc să facă investiții și să îl dezvolte în continuare.
