The most expensive Pokemon cards in the world 4m5e38

Pokemon cards are among the most collectible items in the world. Their value is volatile and depends on a number of factors: age, rarity, misprints that make them unique or manufacturing flaws that give them personality, but also whether or not they are impeccably presented. In this article you can find out which are the most expensive Pokemon cards in the world, as well as more up-to-date versions that may become highly sought-after by collectors. 1g2n1o

The world’s most expensive Pokémon card, the Pikachu Illustrator, is a Pokémon promotional card originally given to the winners of a 1998 illustration contest organized through the Japanese magazine CoroCoro. Only 39 copies were ever created. It is the only card to feature the title “Illustrator” instead of “Coach”. The artwork was drawn by acclaimed Pokémon illustrator Atsuko Nishida, the creator of the main Pokémon mascot, Pikachu. There is even a unique pen icon in the bottom right corner, which is not found on any other book.

It’s not known exactly how many Pikachu Illustrator Pikachu books are still in existence, but ten PSA-certified copies have been categorized as “mint”. By January 2021 a PSA 9 Mint condition book sold for a whopping $233,000 was considered the most expensive Pokémon book ever sold at auction.

But in July 2021, Paul Logan, the famous youtuber and influencer, spent $4 million on the only existing PSA 10 version of the book, with the purchase being credited by Guinness World Records as the most expensive Pokémon book ever sold. But the value of the book is actually even higher: to secure the trade, Paul also handed over a smaller PSA 9 version of the book, which he had previously bought for $1,275,000.

On the card is a picture of Pikachu holding an oversized pen.

This Pokemon card was distributed in 1995, before the first edition Pokemon card that was distributed in 1997 in Japan. It has a blue back that resembles that of a playing card. When it was first offered for sale in 1997, it came with a pack of apple-flavored chewing gum. Of the 31 known cards, this is the only one that is rated Gem Mint. It sold for $493,230 at auction in January 2021.

Pikachu ex: Surging Sparks (Special Illustration Rare), $455 585929

Pikachu ex is unquestionably the most valuable Pokemon card released in 2024, as it adds yet another distinction to go along with the most expensive Surging Sparks card. As a mascot, it’s not surprising to see Pikachu at the top of the leaderboard, but the increase in value from its debut price is still worthy of praise.

The effect of time on Pokemon cards makes the price volatile, as their value certainly increases as time es.

Why is a Pokemon card expensive?

The most valuable Pokémon cards normally have high prices because they are old and there are very few copies in circulation. Most come from the earliest Pokémon sets or are unique tournament prize cards printed in very small numbers. First-edition Pokémon cards, misprints, and desirable variants, such as Pokémon cards without shadows, command very high prices.
