What should poker clubs do to attract more women to the tables?

It’s not the clubs, but the mentality of Romanians. Just think that we come from communism and many years from now we need to evolve in certain areas where women didn’t penetrate until democracy and had no access. Clubs should do more advertising in this sense and organize tournaments dedicated to women.

You’re an experienced poker player and you’ve seen a lot in your career. Are there more women in tournaments, in poker clubs now than say 15 years ago?

Are there more women? I’m telling you on the dot, no. 15 years ago there should have been more, as you say. But there aren’t. And the ones that do come are mostly at the cash tables, not playing in tournaments. That’s my point. There are 3 different strategies and approaches to playing poker: cash, tournaments and online. But another time I’ll explain more fully how and in what way the difference between the three is made.

Does the game of poker bind friendships or feed egos?

In live poker you’re bound to encounter both. It depends on your upbringing, your emotional baggage, how much cash you have and how sociable and friendly you are.

You’ve won poker money, fame and trophies. What are the most important titles you have won in poker that you are most proud of?

As a former sportsman, I can say that I am proud of all the trophies I have won, which are sitting on a shelf in my room. My wins and every performance are listed in a ranking. Anyone can access it. It’s called the „Hendon mob”.

There are many final tables that have added value to me as a player. One thing brings me the greatest pride, if I can say so: the fact that I am the first live poker tournament player, who for 12-13 years, in Romania are the top 1 winners in the game of poker.

What are the most important things you’ve learned from poker?

In poker you need:

1.Patience

2.Diplomacy to hold your own in a man’s world

3.Discipline – which I had as a former athlete

To control my emotions (positive and negative).

What do you like to play more: live or online? Do you prefer Texas Holdem or Omaha? Do you have any other favorite poker style?

Like I said I only play live tunee, Texas Hold’em and when I have time, some online tournaments.

How much do you consider the poker phenomenon is developed in Romania at the moment? What is good? What does it lack?

After the Revolution, the term poker has grown and developed very quickly. But slowly, slowly I think it will die. And this is not because of the clubs or their managers, their s, but because of the legislation in force. License fees are very high and eventually clubs will have to close. Also the over-taxation of poker players is a problem.

Do you have a favorite poker club where you play in Romania?

I don’t have a favorite club. Those who organize and perform in this field are performers to a large or small extent. It’s up to them how they run their business. As a player I go for the tournament itself, whether I find it attractive to participate or not.

Which major live and online tournaments are you planning to play in this year?

This year’s tournaments are live only in Cyprus, EPT Malta, EPT Malta, EPT Barcelona, EPT Prague and God-Help as many as time allows.
