PokerStars has announced full details of its World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) MTT series for 2024.
Scheduled to take place between September 8 and October 2, the 23rd instalment of the flagship series brings over $80million in guaranteed prize money spread across 379 tournaments in three separate tiers: Low, Medium, and High.
As always, the schedule offers tournaments in a wide range of buy-ins from $5.50 up to $25,000, ensuring all poker enthusiasts from novices through to high rollers can take their shot at WCOOP glory.
This year’s edition will see 12 World Champions crowned in an assortment of poker disciplines such as HORSE, 2-7 Triple Draw, 6-Max NLHE, PLO8, Heads-Up NLHE, Razz, NLHE PKO, 8-Game, Badugi, NLHE Women’s, NLHE, and 6-Max PLO.
In WCOOP tradition, dedicated silverware awaits all 2024 WCOOP event winners in recognition of their achievements, while WCOOP Low/Medium/High and Overall Leaderboards also make a return promising $100,000 in added value prizes for the festival’s top runners.
Furthermore, the winners of four dedicated Women’s Events running between September 28 and 29 will receive prize packages each worth £1,200 to the £100K guaranteed Women’s Winter Festival, scheduled to take place at London’s iconic Hippodrome Casino from November 21-24, 2024.
WCOOP hopefuls can secure their seats for less through dedicated Power Path routes with Silver and Gold bundles up for grabs worth $2,500 and $10,300, respectively. Launched last year, Power Path represents players’ tickets to some of PokerStars biggest poker events. One $0.50 Step 1 ticket is available for free each day simply by logging in and playing a real money hand, meaning everyone has a chance to experience the thrill of top-class poker.
In addition, a number of qualification avenues into the Main Events are on offer, with Fast Track satellites beginning at $2.20 and Special Edition Spin & Go’s running from $0.75.
WCOOP 2024 highlights include the following Main Events in NLHE and PLO formats, all scheduled for September 29:
- $109 NLHE WCOOP Main Event-L – $2.5M guaranteed
- $1,050 NLHE WCOOP Main Event-M – $3.5M guaranteed
- $10,300 NLHE WCOOP Main Event-H – World Championship of NLHE – $5M guaranteed
- $109 PLO WCOOP Main Event-L – $200K guaranteed
- $1,050 PLO WCOOP Main Event-M – $500K guaranteed
- $10,300 PLO WCOOP Main Event-H – World Championship of PLO – $800K guaranteed
As an added bonus, all WCOOP 2023 champions are invited to lock horns in an exclusive freeroll on September 14 at 14:40 ET where $50,000 in complementary series tickets including Main Event entries will be up for grabs.
Taking inspiration from the SCOOP League that took place alongside SCOOP this Spring, the inaugural WCOOP League is set to pit six teams against one another in the battle for bragging rights captained by PokerStars ambassadors Lex Veldhuis, whose team strode to victory in the SCOOP League, along with Ben ‘Spraggy’ Spragg, Fintan ‘easywithaces’ Hand, and Parker ‘tonkaaaa’ Talbot.
The two other captains remain a mystery for now, and their identities are expected to prompt widespread speculation among the four current captains and the wider poker community. Players are encouraged to check back at the PokerStars Blog where all will be revealed during EPT Barcelona.
Also new for 2024, players were given the perfect opportunity to warm up for the series and earn a spot in the WCOOP League with PokerStars first ever WCOOP Boot Camp staged between August 4 and 19. Featuring a diverse tournament schedule in an array of popular poker formats and buy-in levels, a dedicated education program served as a cornerstone of the series aimed at equipping players with the necessary skills to succeed once WCOOP comes around. The Boot Camp saw guarantees eclipsed on a daily basis as players descended in their droves to compete for a slice of the millions at stake.
Dedicated training sessions were hosted by of BBZ Poker including the likes of PokerStars ambassadors Lex Veldhuis, Ben ‘Spraggy’ Spragg, Fintan Hand, and Parker ‘Tonkaaaa’ Talbot on specific poker formats. The program was declared a great success as sessions were well-attended, prompting a considerable amount of positive .
Furthermore, PokerStars put together a WCOOP Boot Camp tournament leaderboard that honoured the best performing 100 players across the fortnight by giving away a host of WCOOP tickets and Power Path ticket bundles, plus spots in the WCOOP League.
Earning themselves a coveted WCOOP Gold worth $10,300 along with a place on one of the six WCOOP League teams are ‘farrokh674’, ‘zidix’, ‘So00oSick’, ‘FollowTheBreath’, ‘Revenge4Dodo’, and ‘king153246’. A further 14 players landed $2,500 Silver es and leaderboard places from 21st to 100th won $109 Sunday Million tickets to round off the first ever WCOOP Boot Camp.
Among the other big winners was high stakes player Michael Addamo, who landed a $87,884 score in the $5,200 No-Limit Hold’em Titans Event ahead of fellow pro Simon Mattsson, whose second place was worth $60,172. The Swede went on to follow up that runner-up finish by taking first place in the $1,050 Main Event, adding a further $76,031 to his coffers.
Elsewhere, British player Tom Hall took down the $109 Early Operation for a $17,225 payday, while Samuel Vousden emerged victorious in the $1,050 Sunday Warm-Up High Roller Boot Camp edition to net $14,764. The special edition Sunday Million Main Event was won by British player ‘djhowzy’ for almost $100,000 this past weekend, a week after ‘bluescorp1on’ took home $52,723 + $2,351 for triumphing in the Sunday Million Mystery Mission.
