A great star of poker, he is preparing to become a celebrity ! At 23 years old, Adrian Mateos Diaz is the youngest worldwide player and the holder of three WSOP bracelets. How did all start
The Madrilenian player turned 23 on 1st of July and decided to become the best. It is shocking how, by this age, he managed to collect so much money from professional poker as other people in a lifetime full of sacrifices. He had learned the skills since he was a child, when his parents taught him chess and have even enrolled him in a chess school. But that did not last long. After a while, during the summer vacations, he used to play various card games with his family, such as Mus, a Spanish card game of Basque origin, invented in 1745.
This was in his advantage, but his love of poker started at the age of 16, when, one night, he saw a TV episode of the European Poker Tour. He instantly fell in love with poker and everything he had done until the age of 18 was to continuously gather information about how to use his skills to play poker as well as possible. It is interesting that he had made his bankroll within three months, from July to September 2012, when he had already won four online tournaments.
All on fast-forward
As soon as he had moved in the live casinos in Madrid, he began playing 1€ (SB) with 2€ (BB) and in only a few month he allowed to to 2€-4€ and then to 4€-8€. Afterwards, he wanted to play in live tournaments. And he won smaller tournaments, and short after that, he got the title at Estrellas Poker Tour by winning 100.000 €.
Right after that he decided to go to London (where he is residing now) to play on a truly professional level. Unfortunately, he was forced to give up the University studies, to his parents’ disappointment. He was supposed to learn economy-finance-management. He promised his parents that he would return into his country to restart his studies after one year, if he failed in playing poker. Unfortunately for poker, this could not be possible, and Adrian has now over 9 million Euros in his s, money he won from this sport.
Great results
In the autumn of 2013 ( that the title at Estrella Poker Tour had been won in January) he participated at WSOPE, which took place that year at Enghien-les-Bains and he played the Event 6, 10,000€ + 450 No Limit Hold’em – Main Event, which he surprisingly won by defeating a field of 375 very good players. Among the great names, we mention: Dominik Nitsche (3rd place), Hans Vogt (20th place) or Daniel Negreanu (25th place). The great pot: 1 million Euros! In 2014 he won no important tournament, but he finished on the second place for a few times in row at EPT Deauville, EPT San Remo or UKIPT 4. The following year, in the spring of 2015, he actually exploded and won 2 Turbo Cash – 6 Max tournaments, and on 2nd of May, in the 11th season of EPT, he won 10.000€ at the famous EPT Main Event Grand Final from Monte Carlo, a victory that filled his s with over 1 million Euros.
In April 2016, he participated at World Poker Tour (WPT) in Hollywood at Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown at a tournament of 10.000$ buy-in, where he played the final table and finished on the 4th place by winning over 200.000$.
In June 2016 he dedicated his entire time to WSOP. He played the Event 33, where he managed to a field of 1840 players who had created a prize pool of 2.484.000$, on a 1.500$ buy-in. He defeated the German, Koray Aldemir, at heads-up and he was awarded a prize of over 400.000$.
In December, last year, he ended the year with important amounts of money by participating in the two high-roller tournaments and by obtaining two of the best results: Event 20 and 21 from WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic. He had become more and more confident and invested great sums of money in buy-ins.
And finally, in the spring of this year, he played at Monte Carlo Casino in the PokerStars Championship within the 50,000€ No Limit Hold’em Evet – Eight Max Shot Clock (Event 32) where ended in the first place and obtained a consistent prize – almost 1 million dollars.
The third bracelet came around the beginning of June, after he had successfully participated at this year’s WSOP and won 335,656$ at the 10,000$ No Limit Hold’em – Heads-Up Championship (Event #15). Among the persons he had defeated were the American, Dan Smith, Ryan Riess, or the Englishman, Charlie Carrel.
In only few years he managed to amaze the whole poker world, and to perform several top performances:

Cum a început totul
Jucătorul madrilen a făcut 23 de ani pe 1 Iulie și e decis să devină cel mai bun. Șocant este cum până la această vârstă a reușit să strângă din pokerul profesionist cât alții într-o viață de sacrificii. Abilitățile sale le-a deprins de mic când părinții l-au învățat șah și chiar l-au înscris la o școală de șah. Însă asta nu a durat prea mult. După o vreme, în vacanțele de vară obișnuia să joace în familie diverse jocuri de cărți, ca de exemplu Mus, un joc de cărți spaniol, de origine din Țara Bascilor, inventat pe la 1745.
I-a prins bine, însă dragostea pentru poker a pornit când la vârsta de 16 ani a văzut într-o noapte un episod la tv din European Poker Tour. S-a îndrăgostit pe loc de poker și tot ce-a făcut până la vârsta de 18 ani a fost să se informeze non-stop despre cum să-și folosească abilitățile pentru a juca poker cât mai bine. Foarte interesant este că bankroll-ul și l-a făcut în decurs de 3 luni, din Iulie și până Septembrie 2012, perioadă când a strâns deja 4 turnee online câștigate.
Totul pe repede înainte
Imediat s-a mutat în cazinourile live din Madrid unde a început să joace 1€ (SB) cu 2€ (BB) și în doar câteva luni și-a permis să treacă la 2€-4€ și apoi la 4€-8€. După aceea a vrut să joace turnee live. Și a câștigat turnee mai mici, iar la scurt timp a obținut titlul la Estrellas Poker Tour câștigând 100.000 €.
Imediat s-a decis să plece la Londra (unde-și are reședința și în prezent) ca să joace la nivel cu adevărat profesionist. Din nefericire a fost nevoit să renunțe la Universitate, spre dezamăgirea părinților săi. Trebuia să învețe economie-finanțe-management. Le-a promis părinților că dacă într-un an nu va merge cu pokerul, se va întoarce în țară să-și reia studiile. Din fericire pentru poker acest lucru nu s-a întâmplat, iar Adrian are acum în conturi peste 9 milioane de euro câștigați din acest sport.
Marile rezultate
În toamna anului 2013 (rețineți că titlul de la Estrella Poker Tour fusese câștigat în ianuarie) participă la WSOPE ce a avut loc în acel an la Enghien-les-Bains și joacă Event-ul 6, 10,000€ + 450 No Limit Hold’em – Main Event pe care-l câștigă surprinzător învingând un field de 375 de jucători foarte buni. În aprilie 2016 joacă la World Poker Tour (WPT) în Hollywood la Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown, un turneu de 10.000$ buy-in unde joacă masa finală și termină pe 4 câștigând peste 200.000$.
În Iunie 2016 își dedică întreaga perioadă WSOP-ului. Joacă Event-ul 33 unde depășește un field de 1840! de jucători ce au creat un prizepool de 2.484.000$, la un buy-in de 1.500$. La heads-up îl învinge pe germanul Koray Aldemir și își adjudecă un premiu de peste 400.000$.
În decembrie anul trecut încheie anul în bani serioși obținând două rezultate foarte bune la cele două turnee de high-roller la care participă: Event 20 și 21 de la WPT Five Diamond World Poker Classic. Devine din ce în ce mai încrezător și investește sume mari în buy-in-uri.

A treia brățară vine pe la începutul lui Iunie după ce participă cu succes la WSOP-ul din acest an și câștigă 335,656$ la turneul de 10,000$ No Limit Hold’em – Heads-Up Championship (Event #15). Printre învinșii săi numărându-se americanii Dan Smith, Ryan Riess sau englezul Charlie Carrel.
În doar câțiva ani uimește întreaga lume pokeristică și reușește mai multe performanțe de top:
