Continuing the series in which we are presenting  the most famous people from the international gambling world, we bring you today the story of James Packer – the australian businessman, descendant of the Packer dinasty. In 2015, Forbes estimated Packer’s fortune to approximately $4,5 billions. Extremely famous in Australia, James also had a quite lucky start in life – his family owned an impressive number of businesses. From all of those, James took over the media company called “Consolidated Press Holdings Limited”. The gifted businessman didn’t stop there, growing his own gambling empire. This inspired the coming out of the book “Who wants to be a Billionaire”, in which personal and business related aspects are being described.

James Packer and His Personal Life

The famous australian got engaged in january with the singer Mariah Carey, offering her a 35 carats diamond ring. James and Mariah  met in 2014, at the premiere of a movie. From the TMZ Publication’s statement, James planned a get-together with all their friends in order to propose to Mariah. He has been married twice before, to models Erica Baxter and Jodhi Meares, also having three kids with the first one.

Casinos and famous friends

James owns a casino in Macao – Studio City – worth $4.5 billions, casino that was launched in 2015. What is quite special about this story is the fact that in order to promote the opening of the casino, the billionaire sponsored a short 16 minutes film directed by Brett Ratner, in which the actors Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt and Robert de Niro are playing. Rumors are that the movie cost James $17 million.

The Packer Dinasty

His father was the media mogul Kerry Pecker, and his grandfather was Sir Frank Packer. Besides Consolidated Press Holdings Limited, the family has several investments in many other companies, such as Crown Resorts and Ratpac Entertainment. A great deal of James’ success is the merit of his father, who encouraged him to get involved in business. One curious thing is the fact that his father insisted that he wouldn’t go to college, claiming that his son has nothing to learn from there.

The Crown Resorts

Beginning with 2010, Packer focused on growing a gambling empire – the Crown assembly of businesses. The head quarters of this group are located in Australia and in Macao, also owning a casino in London. This group has gathered a series of resorts that offer a large array of facilities. The ones from Australia – Crown Melbourne and Crown Perth – are hosting VIP villas with over 2300 rooms, pools, gaming areas, luxury spas, fancy stores and restaurants and also areas that host live shows.

Alongside with major investments came major loss, all being part of the risks Packer took. For example, in 2009 the Crown group lost $250 millions because of the investment made in a casino in the United States.

However, James Packer always knew how to regroup in order to make a profit from most of his businessed. This way, in 2011 he bought a stock of shares to the Aspinall’s Club in London, which he later on incorporated in the Crown Group.

A fascinating figure, James Packer is the simbol of a generation that knew how to use the advantages of being born in a very wealthy and socially distinguished family, but who also chose to make his own road through life, developing an empire. With a personal life full of luxury and glamour, the billionaire dedicated a part of his time to charity, founding the Packer Family Foundation Board and also the Crown Resorts Foundation. Cei doi – James şi Mariah – se pare că s-au întâlnit în 2014, la premiera unui film. Din declaraţiile publicaţiei TMZ reiese că acesta a plănuit o întâlnire cu toţi prietenii lor pentru a o cere pe Mariah Carey în căsătorie. James Packer a mai fost căsătorit de două ori până acum, cu modelele Erica Baxter şi Jodhi Meares, având şi trei copii cu prima.

Cazinourile şi prietenii celebri merg mână în mână

Acesta deţine în Macao un cazino – Studio City – în valoare de 4,5 miliarde de dolari, lansat în anul 2015. Ceea ce este deosebit în această poveste este faptul că pentru a promova acest cazino, miliardarul a sponsorizat un scurt film de 16 minute, regizat de Brett Ratner, în care apar Martin Scorsese, Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt şi Robert de Niro. O mare parte din succesul lui James se datorează tatălui său care l-a încurajat să se implice în afaceri. O curiozitate este faptul că tatăl său a insistat ca James să nu meargă la facultate, considerând că fiul său nu are ce învăţa acolo.
