Have you ever let yourself caught by the mirage of gambling?

No, I am not a casino player but I have visited a few. I don’t really have time, because I’m always on air, the station is my “casino”. For 12 years I have been doing this every night. I leave the OTV station around 4:00-5:00 a.m. By that time, the casinos are already closed.

During your lifetime and career, you have probably been placed in the position of a poker player. Could you say that you won the big pot?

Yes, for sure, because every night we watch the “tombolas”, if I may call the audience results like this.  Taking into these, we can cash in the money. Therefore, the situation is just like a lottery. We have also, just like some of the casinos, several “safety cars”, statistics with certain guests or stories that we know that attract the interest of the viewers. We also have subjects we put to a test, in order to find out how captivating they might be; it is just like betting on red or black. It was easy for other co-workers in the media, they just made a replica of the OTV style, but I always have this question in mind: ”What happens the next day?”

How do you perceive this industry in Romania?

Oh! Here in Romania, there is always a problem. The taxes are so high that at every corner you can find a closed casino. I’ve dealt with some of these matters even in my show. For the moment, everything seems to be ok, taking into consideration that in some other countries, they are completely forbidden.

What do you think it should be done to change this?

Generally, my viewers want a better life. Thus, if the casinos can do something about this, it would be very good. Others dispraise them and would like to see them shut. Everyone has his/her interest. As long as they pay their taxes to the state, they are very welcome from my point of view. I would like to see Romania becoming a Las Vegas of Europe! If I were in charge, I would for sure leave this industry to grow and then place the taxes. I would create a Romanian heaven from this point of view. Probably this will be the point of view of the governants in a while and they will let them free at one point.

What is the personal and professional prospective for the next few years?

It is certainly related to television. I’ve always wanted to do this, so this is what I do.  I had a little luck but also bad luck, when the station was closed in 2002, after which the bad luck lost the first word and transformed into luck, just like in the casino. I’ll be playing all my life in this field. By creating this type of premises, I hope to become number 1 in the preference of the viewers, having at the same time the age and experience advantage over my competitors. I like to believe that in 2012-2013 at the most, OTV will be a leader among the TV stations. I’ve started a new path, here in the current location. Now everything depends on how we know to bring the viewers closer to us. In the end, it is all about money. Who invests more has the higher benefits, but this was not the recipe for OTV. Only now, did we start to place an emphasis on this, because until now everything was done with ion.

V-aţi lăsat vreodată prins în magia gamblingului?

Nu, nu sunt un jucător de cazino, dar am vizitat câteva. Nu prea am timp pentru că stau tot timpul în emisie, acolo e „cazinoul” meu. De 12 ani fac asta seară de seară. Plec de la sediul televiziunii OTV la 4.00-5.00 dimineaţa şi, la ora aceea, cazinourile sunt închise deja.

De-a lungul vieţii şi a carierei, totodată, probabil că aţi fost pus în situaţia unui jucător de poker. Puteţi spune că aţi căştigat jackpot-ul cel mare?

Da, cu siguranţă, pentru că, în fiecare seară, noi urmărim „extragerile”, dacă le pot spune aşa audienţelor. Şi, în funcţie de rezultatul acestora, putem spune că ne încasăm banii. Astfel că, întreaga situaţie conturează o adevărată loterie. Avem, însă, şi noi la fel ca la cazinouri, anumite siguranţe, numite, în cazul de faţă, statistici cu anumiţi invitaţi sau anumite subiecte care ştim că atrag interesul telespectatorilor. Avem şi alte subiecte pe care le încercăm în dorinţa de a vedea cât de captivante sunt pentru ei, e precum ai paria pe roşu sau pe negru. Pentru alţi colegi din media a fost mai uşor pentru că ei doar au copiat stilul OTV, dar eu mi-am pus mereu întrebarea „ce se va întâmpla a doua zi? „.

Cum percepeţi această industrie în România?

Oh! Aici în România este în permanenţă o problemă. Sunt taxele atât de mari, încât la fiecare pas sunt închise cazinourile. Am dezbătut astfel de subiecte şi la mine în emisiune. Dar, pe moment, totul pare destul de ok, având în vedere că în alte ţări este interzis cu desăvârşire existenţa cazinourilor.

Şi, atunci, ce ar trebui făcut pentru a se schimba ceva în acest sens?

Telespectatorii mei, în general, vor o viaţă mai bună. Dacă în privinţa acestui subiect cazinourile pot face ceva, ar fi foarte bine. Alţii le blamează şi cer închiderea lor. Fiecare cu interesele lor. Atâta timp cât ele îşi plătesc conştiincios impozitele către stat, din punctul meu de vedere, ele sunt binevenite. Mi-ar plăcea să văd România drept un Las Vegas al Europei! Dacă aş fi la putere cu siguranţă aş lăsa industria asta a cazinourilor să se dezvolte şi abia apoi să impozitez. Aş face un Rai românesc din punctul acesta de vedere. Probabil că asta va fi şi mintea de pe urmă a guvernanţilor şi vor lăsa mai libere hăţurile la un moment dat.

Care e perspectiva personală şi profesională în următorii ani?

În mod cert tot în televiziune. Mereu mi-am dorit să fac asta şi asta şi fac. Am avut şi puţin noroc şi mai mult ghinion cu închiderea postului în 2002, după care, în cele din urmă, ghinionul s-a transformat în noroc, exact ca la cazinou. Voi juca toată viaţa în domeniul acesta. Creând astfel de premise, sper să ajung numărul 1 în rândul preferinţei telespectatorilor, având, totodată, şi avantajul vârstei şi a experienţei faţă de competitorii mei. Cel mult în 2012-2013, vreau să cred că OTV-ul va fi lider în rândul televiziunilor. Am luat-o pe un nou drum aici, în actualul sediu. Acum totul depinde de cum vom ştii să  aducem mai aproape de noi telespectatorii. Până la urma, totul ţine şi de bani. Cine investeşte mai mult are şi cele mai multe beneficii, dar la OTV nu asta a fost reţeta. Abia de acum OTV a început să pună mai mult accent pe asta, pentru că, până acum, televiziunea a făcut totul mai din suflet.
